As a writer, nothing overjoys me more than sharing my stories with others. Therefore, I hope you enjoy reading them while I occasionally ramble about technology or videogames, anime, good books I have read or my desire to be discovered as an actor!
The following is a short story that was made and published by me in the AVATAR Typepad group a few days ago. I hope you enjoy it, my dear reader. (You guessed it, this short story is a fan story based on James Cameron's AVATAR. I ocassionally write some of those if the author is really good.)
"What she loved the most"
A pair of blue lips was illuminated by the fire. They belonged to a body that was moving slowly, but it was clear that it possessed a prideful feeling encrusted in its heart. Was it trying to form a word or, perhaps, a name? No one could say for sure at that point.
“We figured it out, child...” the lips said, “we all understand you.”
Mo’at, the previous Tsahik of the Blue Flute clan of the Na’vi, was one of the few that had been enlightened by Eywa. Ever since that person’s death, she had hold dear that woman's final words as she had, after all, been one of the few who returned to the Great Mother through a bond; it was truly a rare honor.
Mo’at then rose from her seat, raised her hands and placed one of them over a shoulder of Jakesully and the other one over Neytiri's, as she directed her gaze towards the direction of the fire that had set alight the hearts of the People.
“Then,” Mo’at said, “I think it is time to sing the new song”
Neytiri’s sight met Jake’s as the bioluminescent forest radiated a peculiar glow in the faces of Mo’at and the rest of the People. The Na’vi and the AVATAR team were listening to her, paying close attention. This was a precious ceremony.
A melodious voice, that rivaled the sweet feeling produced by the morning's breeze, renewed the flames that kept everyone united. That voice belonged to Ninat, the clan’s finest singer. Everyone understood that the first verse of the new song, that special woman’s song, had started.
As the ceremony progressed, Norm, Neytiri, Jake and Mo’at removed themselves and started to discuss about the finest points of her friend’s life in Pandora. There were so many visual cues, so many expressions and so many small details. Many said that it was difficult to see her, to understand her. However, it should have been glaringly obvious from the start. Neytiri kept thinking, as if she desired to remind everyone, that the subtle points are the hardest to understand.
“She was something else…” Norm paused, “wasn’t she?”
He and Jake, both resisting the urge to remember the fateful moment in which she had been hurt, moved closer to the fire as Mo’at maneuvered her hands with a delicate, and yet consoling, gesture.
“She is with the Great Mother. The first of the Sky People to be with her. For that, we praise her with a song”.
The words of the previous Tashik rang true in their hearts as the song progressed to its next verse. Hearts were being healed, just as when it happened when they honored the memory of Eytukan and the mighty warriors of the clan.
They returned to the place of the ceremonial fire; everyone kept on singing and the children of that woman’s school danced as they made flowing gestures with their fingers that created a scene as beautiful as the Hallelujah Mountains. Everyone remembered, at least for that night, the life of one of the first members of the Sky People that had made a bond with them like many will never be able to.
“The one she loved the most was…” said Jake as Neytiri interrumpted him.
“It
was Pandora and the People, wasn't it?" she said, as if her thoughts
and Jake's were the same. They found comfort in their gaze.
"She truly was a disciple of Eywa” said Mo’at.
"Yeah... you are right Mo'at" said Norm. "She really did see all of us."
The People sang to thank Eywa and to honor that woman's name; the name of Grace Augustine.
